Unfortunately I got norovirus right before I was set to go home for max’s wedding. So instead of heading off to a relaxing weekend on Nantucket, I spent the weekend… doing what one does when they have noro. But, post noro, I stayed on trail a few days longer. These are my thoughts from those days.
Coming back to trail, I figured I needed to take a shorter day. I still wasnt 100% but I also couldn’t sit still any longer. It was time for me to start moving. Also I had talked to rocket and baby talk. If I could do 8 miles today, I could meet up with them tomorrow. I had my motivation.
Leaving was tough. Each step was labored. My bag was heavy and I really didn’t want to carry it or walk. But I kept going forward. Slowly. I walked at a sub-pedestrian pace and just focused on making it 8 miles.
It was the longest 8 miles and I don’t even remember the sites. I couldn’t tell you if it was hot or rained. I kept my head down and just stepped. I was exhausted when I made it to camp, but at the end of the day, I made it and that’s what mattered.
8 miles done and barely any noro symptoms remained. I had a bit of an appetite. Just enough to eat a small dinner and then I crashed hard and early.
